Il quarto principio della memoria culturale. Per un’antropologia
delle rievocazioni storiche
Fabio Dei
Abstract. Historical re-enactments are widespread in contemporary Tuscany: there are hundreds of events, involving tens of thousands of social actors. These events are the result of the intertwining of two different practices. On the one hand, the tradition of urban historical festivals, progressively developed during the twentieth century; on the other, the practice of historical reenactment born in Northern Europe and the United States. The combination of these two dimensions gives rise to a new ritual and festive language, which overlaps and partially replaces the more traditional folk festivals. The paper proposes an analysis of such phenomenon in the context of studies on cultural memory.
Dalla morte la vita. Osservazioni intorno alla sacralita del cibo
Ignazio E. Buttitta
Abstract. Since the appearance of Homo erectus, the consumption of meat has been constitutive of human life. Food is sacred because it is derived from the death of other living beings, but depriving these of life constitutes an offence against the gods, so any deprivation of life must take place according to precise rules. Food represents a symbol, and the occasions of its consumption are elective moments both of mediation between the here and the hereafter and of affirmation of the social body. On this awareness, albeit with specific articulations within each culture, the relationship between human beings and gods, and between men and men, has been founded. In increasingly limited contexts, it continues to be founded today
Migranti in Sicilia. Transiti, mete, restanze
Antonio Sorge
Abstract. This paper examines migrant resettlement in Sicily, a region that is marginal to the rest of Italy and Europe. Irregular migrants and refugees are wracked by an ambivalence toward Sicily, which they consider to be a region not likely to offer the conditions for the successful lives for which they so yearn. The encounter between migrants and their Sicilian hosts plays out as an exercise in meaning-making on the borders of Europe that flows from a reciprocal interplay of ambivalences that question the foundations of parallel forms of marginalization conditioned, or even borne, by a history of geographical liminality.
La cristallizzazione cognominale. Uno studio comparativo tra forme siciliane
e francoprovenzali
Marco Fragale
Abstract. This contribution carries out a comparative archival study between Sicilian nominal forms identified in Gratteri, a small Sicilian village in the Madonie, and Franco-Provençal forms received in two small French municipalities of Ain, Poncin and Joyeux, located in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The intent is to understand the processes of formation and the phases of crystallization of names and surnames of the respective areas of belonging through the identification of unpublished onomastic sources relating to periods considered a hinge for the transition to modern anthroponymy
Religiosidad popular y franquismo. Militarismo, fascismo y nacionalcatolicismo
en la semana santa de Huelva (1937-1951)
José Carlos Mancha Castro
Abstract. This paper deals with the political instrumentalization of the ritual to Huelva’s semana santa (Andalusia, Spain) during the first decades of Francoism. The ritual was used to legitimize the various Francoist imaginaries and the construction of a memorial complex on the Second Republic and the spanish civil war, serving as a channel for socializing the values and ideologies that laid the foundations of the regime. In the processions, the political and ecclesiastical authorities presented themselves in communion, producing a tangled game of symbolic exchanges and a syncretism of militarist, fascist and national-Catholic liturgies.

Forma e funzione alla prova della fotografia. Alcune riflessioni a partire
da Walker Evans
Emanuele Crescimanno
Abstract. The form-function relationship is a topos of culture, investigated from multiple perspectives: it is useful to understand the role that objects have played in the cultural process. The contribution analyses the photographic representation of objects and aims to highlight the characteristics of objects that emerge through photographic representation: the images by Walker Evans, presented in the portfolio Beauties of the Common Tool («Fortune Magazine», 1955), demonstrate the capacity of photography to highlight the formal and functional characteristics of tools and the role they play in the process of hominization.
Autenticita digitale. L’esperienza turistica aumentata di un sito UNESCO
Emanuela Caravello
Abstract. The article proposes a reflection on the topic of authenticity with reference to digital solutions developed for cultural heritage. After a brief theoretical review on digital authenticity, the article analyzes as a case study an application for mobile devices, which offers augmented reality content and digital reconstructions of spaces, monuments and activities of the Roman city of Tarraco (Tarragona), included by UNESCO in the World Heritage List. The research conducted according to a qualitative methodology returns evidence of the centrality of authenticity in the tourist experience and in the strategies aimed at fostering the attractiveness of places.
Tempo della crisi e attesa della fine. Vita straniera e liberazione
nella serie tedesca Dark
Aurelio D’Amore
Abstract. The countless crises that have characterised the last century have given birth to a vast imaginary of catastrophes. This imaginary finds an inexhaustible source in those popular culture narratives that explore the ‘approach of the end’. Among these narratives, a prominent place is occupied by Dark. Within the science fiction genre, this Netflix series explores the theme of time travel based on the postulates of the theory of relativity. Dark’s main narrative draws a cylindrical space-time dimension in which free will seems to be denied. In such a cosmology, the world becomes a prison. Referring to the framework of the mediatization of religion and occulture, this paper aims to investigate the articulation of Dark’s esoteric and (fanta)scientific narrative, situating it in the stream of the gnostic return that runs through popular culture.
Giustizia ambientale. Situare l’ecologia, combattere l’ingiustizia
Paola Imperatore
Abstract. Since the 1970s, an environmentalist consciousness has developed that has denounced the ecological limits of the planet, ignoring however its deep interconnection with the dimension of justice. The link between environmental and social inequalities will instead be at the center of the struggles for environmental justice, which arises from the suburbs, peripheries and margins of the planet, deeply challenging the supposed neutrality of nature and revealing the intrinsic political dimension of ecology. Starting from these struggles, the aim is to reflect on the connection between ecological degradation, climate crisis, and justice.
La campagna di protesta contro il poligono militare di Punta Izzo.
Micro-conflitti nel territorio siciliano
Federica Frazzetta e Giuliana Sorci
Abstract. In the last years, climate justice and LULU movements have spanned Italy and beyond. Alongside such huge movements, in Italy “low intensity” micro-conflicts had spread, involving local communities in contrasting unwanted projects. In this article we propose a frame analysis of the protest campaign against the reactivation of a military polygon in Augusta (SR), in Sicily. We a found a process of frame amplification because, when asking to demilitarize the area to establish a natural park, activists also claim for another model of development. We used qualitative methods tools.
